Vicente, East Porterville, California

Vicente lived in the greater Los Angeles area for over 30 years. He moved to East Porterville when his brother bought property there. It functions as an oasis for their entire extended family. He keeps goats, peacocks, chickens, a pony and has an array of fruit trees and bushes.

Their well is drilled deeply, thus, they aren't as affected as their neighbors. However, he stated that a lot of people point fingers at those who keep their plants and lawns alive. While giving me a tour of the property, he proudly boasted that he wastes nothing. It's true. Right down to the watermelon and pineapple rinds.
