Doug, Dairy Farmer, Tipton, California
Doug was the first person I photographed for the project. I had the fortune of meeting his wife and children who were all incredibly generous with their time.
Doug explained, "There's no canal water left and our wells will only last a few more years. Pumping costs more. Last year our power bill increased 30% for a total of $350,000 a year just for pumping. If the wells go dry, it costs $150,000 to drill a new one. Down the road, if we don't solve the water problem, we'll have to go elsewhere. Might have to take the farm to the Midwest."
